About Anne Rice

The following facts are from Anne Rice’s Website and Facebook page.

Anne Rice is quite famous for her supernatural novels, and her amazing storytelling. Her novels are all richly descriptive and lyrical; they often mesh the supernatural world and the real world together. Her novels are always well researched, as she values historical accuracy. She also creates realistic characters that readers are compelled to feel empathy for.

Anne Rice was born named Howard Allen O’Brien on October 4, 1941. She was named after her father, Howard. She hated her given name, and in first grade when she was asked for her name, she renamed herself “Anne.” Her mother was quite liberal, and allowed her to keep the name.

She graduated from Richardson High School in 1959, and then attended Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas and later North Texas State College.

She married her high school sweetheart Stan Rice on October 14, 1961 in Denton Texas.

Together they had two children:

  • Michele Rice, was born on September 21, 1966 (d. August 5, 1972 of Leukemia; just before her fifth birthday)
  • Christopher Rice, was born on March 11, 1978. He is currently a bestselling novelist, you can see his website here.

Anne and Stan (as they were often called–better than Brangelina), bought the Garden District Greek Revival house in New Orleans in 1989. This house became the setting for many of Anne Rice’s novels.

Anne Rice returned to the Catholic Church in 1998. Stan Rice died of brain cancer on December 9, 2002. After this (in 2002) she devoted her future writing to either be about Jesus or to write for Jesus.

Which is why the following two books about Jesus himself, soon to be a trilogy were written:

She also wrote two novels about angels and assassins:

She also wrote an autobiography about her spiritual renewal:

In 2010 she announced (via her Facebook page) that she “quit being a Christian” while she remains committed to Christ.

She later added that:
“In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control. I refuse to be anti-Democrat. I refuse to be anti-secular humanism. I refuse to be anti-science. I refuse to be anti-life… I quit Christianity and being Christian.”

Most recently, she has returned to writing supernatural fiction with her novel The Wolf Gift.

Though she has previously stated that she is not going to add to the Vampire Chronicles, no one, maybe not even Rice herself, knows what she will write about in the future… so stay tuned!
