These three novels by Anne Rice take place in her favorite setting, New Orleans.
The Witching Hour was published in 1990, Lasher in 1993, and Taltos in 1994. These novels make up the Mayfair Witches Chronicles. The Mayfair family has a protector that gives them powers, he is referred to as “the man” or Lasher. This trilogy centers around Deirdre and her daughter Rowan (also in the Vampire Chronicles), her husband Michael and the spirit Lasher. This trilogy is very weird at times, with Rowan first giving birth to a baby that is taken over by Lasher, then Lasher continually raping and impregnating Rowan, hoping to create another creature like himself, a Taltos. Finally, the Taltos mythology is revealed in the third book.
